Weekend Wrap Up (1/18 - 1/20)

Friday

I got back from NYC a couple of days ago and caught some vicious stomach flu. I think it was the flu that was spreading lately, and I felt like shit up until today. I didn't have an appetite, and the amount of times I went to the washroom was ridiculous. I felt a lot better, but I did not want to jinx it. I stayed home and gave myself the proper rest I needed.

Saturday

In the early afternoon, I went over to Drew's new place and checked out his crib. I’m impressed. You got yourself a good spot. I'm extremely happy for you. I can't wait to move out and get my own place. I can't wait for your house warming party.

Later on that night, Maria and I joined Paul, Stanley, Linh and Julie out for Dine Out. This year was Paul's turn to choose a restaurant. We ended up going to Edible Canada. I heard good things about this restaurant but never had the time to check it out. They offered a $28 and $38 menu. There was a lot of variety. I ended choosing the $38 menu while Maria had the $28 menu. Paul was able to point out exactly what I wanted. *SMH* Bro love right there. He knows me too well. The decor of the restaurant made me feel like I was out in a market or cooking set. It was certainly an unique and intimate experience. I ordered the Crispy Dungeness Crab Cakes, Braised Kettle Ridge Beef Shortrib and Cocolico Salted Caramel Sundae. Everything was delicious. I ate everything and was satisfied. The crab cake was crispy and filled with crab with each bite. The shortrib was soft and soaked in flavor. The smashed wasabi peas were unique, and I couldn't taste the wasabi, but Maria did. It was a very interesting replacement of mash potato. The sundae was a bonus. The portion was small, and I couldn't get enough of it. It was vanilla and chocolate ice cream with candied peanuts, salted caramel and a brownie. It blew my mind. It was an excellent pick. I have next year’s dine out pick, and I hope I don’t disappoint.

Edible Canada at the Market on Urbanspoon

Sunday

Maria and I caught Gangster Squad with Bo, Tinnie, Alyssa, Nikko and Paul. I thought it was a good movie. There were parts in the movie where I thought they were trying to for the Scarface look and feel. There were two things I thought would've made this movie better. They could've showed more on how Mickey Cohen ran the city and his reign of terror. They also could've showed more take downs on Mickey Cohen's businesses from the police and its aftermath. I didn't think the movie was theater worthy nor was it a classic, but it was GANGSTA!!
